What the
Bible says
About Itself
(Prepared
by Aaron Kember)
All scripture is
inspired by God.
"All scripture is
given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for
doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction
in righteousness:"
(2 Timothy 3:16)
God's Word is eternal,
will never pass away, will outlast this earth.
"Heaven and earth
shall pass away, but my words shall not pass
away."
(Matthew 24:35)
"For all flesh is
as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of
grass. The grass withereth, and its flower falleth
away: But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And
this is the word which by the gospel is preached to
you."
(1 Peter 1:24,25)
The Word of God is more
important than human traditions.
"For laying aside
the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as
the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like
things ye do. And he said to them, Full well ye reject
the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own
tradition. Making the word of God of no effect through
your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such
like things ye do."
(Mark 7:8,9,13)
People can be misled by
not knowing the scriptures.
"And Jesus
answering said to them, Do ye not therefore err,
because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power
of God?"
(Mark 12:24)
The early Christians
read the scriptures to verify what they heard.
"These were more
noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they
received the word with all readiness of mind, and
searched the scriptures daily, whether those things
were so."
(Acts 17:11)
The Word of God exposes
our thoughts.
"For the word of
God is living, and powerful, and sharper than
any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing
asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and
marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and
intents of the heart. Neither is there any creature
that is hidden in his sight: but all things are
naked and opened to the eyes of him with whom we have
to do."
(Hebrews 4:12,13)
God's Word will be used
to judge those who didn't accept it.
"He that rejecteth
me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth
him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge
him in the last day."
(John 12:48)
Acting on the Word of
God is a solid foundation
"Whoever cometh to
me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will
show you to whom he is like:"
(Luke 6:47)
