Spirituality and New Age Thinking
Timothy Finley, 50, runs spiritual workshops and seminars and writes books. In a recent TIME magazine article, he says his brand of spirituality can not be labeled. “We have the power at any given moment to choose new beliefs. New interpretations of the world around us…..I’ve come to recognize myself as a spiritual being……” He has found a ritual in his life that “really, truly works; it’s singing the Smurf song.” (1) In case you don’t know, Mr. Finley is referring to the theme song of a popular 1980’s television cartoon series. He claims that singing the Smurf Song puts a smile on his face. But is that as deep as spirituality gets?
Is there something more to spirituality then a good feeling? Something more then being tuned in to the chirps of the birds and the buzz of the bees? Something deeper and more lasting then walking through a replica of an ancient mystical labyrinth or maze? Is there more to our spiritual life then a shot of energy, a goose bump or two, a tingle, or a nostalgic thought when looking through a stained glass window or kneeling at an image or musing while a song is played? Never mistake a positive emotion or a warm feeling for the spiritual answer you need in your life.
Do not let the disappointment you have experienced in churches or the disillusionment you have felt over the failures of religious leaders ever deter you from seeking the TRUTH. Tragically, many people have felt betrayed by what is called the Christian faith. They have seen too much ritualism. Too much hypocrisy. Too many excesses. Too many scams and frauds.
You are looking for reality. You are looking for genuine transformation that will empower you to live a fulfilled life, anchored, secure, and with the certainty of a bright eternal future. If that is your desire, get beyond women and men; priests, gurus, humanism, evangelists, pastors, prophets and rabbis. Go directly to the Word of God, the Bible. It is a truly amazing book, unlike any others. Start reading the Gospel of John, in the New Testament.
Jesus said: “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No man cometh unto the Father (God) but by me.” John 14:6. The Way is not a church, a denomination, a creed or a path. The Way is a Person - Jesus Christ. |
